According to Original Sin’s showrunner Clyde Phillips, the future
Dexter is actually alive and well. Production on the series began in January,
with scenes being film at iconic NYC landmarks.

Dexter will probably be on the run and trying to elude the law while continuing to hunt serial killers.
He may also be looking for a way to honor his late sister, Debra Morgan.
Jennifer Carpenter hasn’t returned to reprise her role, though, and it is unclear whether she will make an appearance in Resurrection.
Cast
The cast of dexter resurrection is comprise of franchise veterans. David Zayas and James Remar reprise their roles as Detective Angel Batista and Harry Morgan, respectively. Jack Alcott will return as Harrison Morgan, Dexter’s son, while Emilia Suarez will play Elsa Rivera. In addition, Peter Dinklage will appear as Leon Prater, a billionaire who has his own dark side.
In addition, Showtime has tapped four new actors to join the cast. Uma Thurman will star as Charley, while Krysten Ritter (Jessica Jones) makes a guest appearance as Mia. Neil Patrick Harris (Uncoupled, How I Met Your Mother) will also join the series in a guest starring role as Lowell.
Behind the scenes, Emmy nominee Clyde Phillips returns to serve as the series’ showrunner. He’ll be join by Scott Reynolds (Jessica Jones), Tony Hernandez (Emily in Paris) and Lilly Burns (Russian Doll). The series will be produce by Showtime Studio and Counterpart Studio with Marcos Siega directing some episodes.
Release Date
Dexter fans are eagerly awaiting the premiere of Resurrection, but Showtime and Paramount+ haven’t announced an official release date. However, it is expected to premiere in Summer 2025 based on the production timeline and Clyde Phillips’ comments.
The prequel series will pick up right after the finale of Original Sin, which saw Dexter’s son Harrison shoot him in the heart and leave him for dead in the snow. But the series will reveal that he survived the shooting.
Michael C Hall, David Zayas, and James Remar will return as series regulars for the new season. Jack Alcott will reprise his role as Dexter’s son, Harrison Morgan, and Uma Thurman has been added to the cast in a limited series regular role. Her character is Charley, the head of security for a billionaire named Leon Prater. Production for the new series is already underway in New York City.

After a divisive and retconned ending to New Blood, Dexter fans were eager to see what the showrunners had in store for the series’ return. The sequel series, titled Dexter Resurrection, is filming in New York City and is expected to premiere on Paramount+ with Showtime this summer.
Set photos reveal that there’s no significant time jump, so we can expect to pick up immediately following the events of New Blood. The series will move from Iron Lake to the hustle and bustle of New York City, where the showrunners have re-introduced Michael C Hall’s serial killer character.
The showrunners are also introducing a new villain. Peter Dinklage has been cast as Leon Prater, a wealthy venture capitalist who seems like the model of civility and compassion but harbors darker intentions. He’s a perfect addition to the franchise, which has often relied on big-name actors to play its most compelling baddies.
