Shadow of the Erdtree trailer
When it comes to sandboxes that offer a plethora of weapons, armor and dungeons, the Elden Ring world has more than enough content for a hundred playthroughs. But for those who want to see more, FromSoftware is releasing the new DLC Shadow of the Erdtree.
Lore hounds have had their eyes peeled for any details on the DLC’s story since its gameplay trailer was released back in February. However, FromSoftware and game director Hidetaka Miyazaki have done almost nothing to disprove rumors or reward players for taking small hints and running with them to illogical extremes.
In the latest Shadow of the Erdtree trailer, a player runs into a strange landscape that looks very different from the base game’s world. The trailer then shows a tree that’s not the familiar Erdtree you see from nearly any angle in The Lands Between — it’s twisted, dripping with golden corruption, and wreathed in dark shadow. It’s a mysterious, foreboding landscape that Miyazaki teases will have a lot of blood to spill.
Shadow of the Erdtree gameplay
Unlike other DLC for open-world games, Shadow of the Erdtree seamlessly integrates with the base game’s endgame. Players can carry over their levels and most equipment, making it feel like a natural part of the world. In addition to adding new combat and lore to the Lands Between, the DLC also introduces several NPCs who spout cryptic clues.
This massive expansion is From Software’s best work on Elden Ring, providing an incredible amount of new content. The DLC includes a new location, new bosses, and a grim new story that reveals how evil characters in the main game buried horrific secrets in the Lands Between.
To access the expansion, players must complete much of the base game and defeat Radahn and Mohg. Once they have done so, a withered arm will appear at the Cocoon of the Empyrean, and players can touch it to travel to the Lands of Shadow. From there, the story focuses on Miquella and his followers who follow him out of a sense of loyalty and protection. The DLC is an expertly-crafted addition to the lore of the Lands Between, and the ending raises thought-provoking questions about the nature of power.
Shadow of the Erdtree story
FromSoftware hasn’t revealed much about the story for the expansion, but it’s centered around Miquella. He’s a key figure in the lore of Elden Ring, but players never interact with him beyond his presence in the game’s background lore and a few NPCs that spout cryptic info.
This DLC looks to build on the existing lore of Elden Ring, and it seems to be a major point of conflict in the Tarnished world. Its antagonist, Messmer the Impaler, is a powerful figure who has ruled the Lands Between for generations.
The DLC is available to purchase as a standalone expansion or in a special edition that includes the game and the DLC. CDKeys is currently offering the DLC for a discount, knocking off 25 per cent. It will be released on June 21 for consoles and PC. FromSoftware has also released a one-of-a-kind trailer to promote the expansion. It’s an exciting addition to the acclaimed action-RPG, which won many awards upon its release in 2022 check here more.
