Julia Roberts Refuses to Strip For Movies
Julia Roberts has built a wildly successful career, but she refuses to strip for her movies. The Erin Brockovich actress recently spoke about her stance in a new British Vogue interview.
She explain that even though she starr in Pretty Woman, which is center around a sex worker, she declined to do any racy scenes. She instead used a body double for those moments.
Pretty Woman
In the film, she plays Vivian Ward, a down-on-her luck Hollywood sex worker who is hire by rich businessman Edward Lewis to be his escort for a week.
She’s a show-stopping character to be sure, with her sultry red velvet gown and decadent ruby and diamond necklace presented to her by Edward, her matching thigh high boots, and swept back up-do. She’s also know for her ’90s wide-leg shorts and longline blazer combo, which is a style that is ahead of its time (and would be right at home in today’s fashion landscape).
Roberts went on to star in a number of popular ’90s films, including Notting Hill, Runaway Bride, and My Best Friend’s Wedding. She also got her first Oscar nomination for the role — which she won 10 years later in Erin Brockovich. More recently, she’s appear in a slew of TV shows, such as Homecoming and the political limited series Gaslit.
Erin Brockovich
Even in her sexiest role as Vivian Ward in 1990’s Pretty Woman, Roberts kept herself fully clothed and avoided any racy scenes with her onscreen boyfriend, business mogul Edward Lewis.
In the 2000 film Erin Brockovich, Roberts played real-life environmental activist Erin Brockovich in what was her most skin-baring role to date.
Since the film, Brockovich has become a household name and hasn’t rested on her laurels.
Duplicity
Duplicity is a shapeshifter, so she can change her height and weight at will. She is usually of average height for a girl and has a pear-shaped figure with wavy light blonde hair and pale skin. She is also very emotional compared to her inhumanly stoic mother and has a hard time hiding how she feels.
Her paths cross with a suave MI6 agent, Ray Koval, and the pair fall in love. But despite their romantic entanglement, they remain competitive frenemies in a high-stakes game of cat-and-mouse.
Director Tony Gilroy (Michael Clayton) brings the same intelligent style to this thriller, whose thrills don’t rely on car chases or intricate fight scenes. But after five mentally exhausting plot twists, the movie loses its edge. Still, Roberts and Owen shine as sexy spies in this high-end heist film.
Leave the World Behind
In Leave the World Behind, a misanthropic wife and her laissez-faire husband are left to their own devices when a series of calamitous events render their home incomprehensible. It’s a big-screen adaptation of Rumaan Alam’s novel, starring Julia Roberts and Ethan Hawke along with Mahershala Ali and Myha’la Herrold, and directed by Mr Robot creator Sam Esmail. Big set pieces like planes falling from the sky add scale and gravitas, with a narrative that straddles domestic horror and global disaster film.
It’s a smart, enjoyable thriller that borrows the indirect yet careful framing of M. Night Shyamalan, the attention to societal dynamics of Jordan Peele, and the apocalyptic ambiguities of Jeff Nichols’ Take Shelter. Whether you view it as a sly allegory for current events or just a fun, entertaining end-of-the-world thriller, this is a well-rounded movie with a terrific cast read more here .
